Engaging a Community that is Inclusive and Diverse
Affordable homes and apartments coupled with market-rate housing can accelerate a community’s rebirth into a healthy, self-sustaining, mixed-income neighborhood. The Better Housing Coalition changes lives and transforms communities through high-quality, affordable housing.
Communities In Schools of Richmond supports K-12 students in 39 Richmond City and Henrico County high-poverty neighborhood schools. Through early interventions and enrichment opportunities, CIS works with the community inside of the schools to help students succeed. The CIS evidence-based approach, adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the basis for its success.
Feed More distributes nutritious meals and wholesome food to those in the Richmond community who need it most. By partnering with local schools and community organizations, Feed More runs programs focused on child nutrition which students have the nourishment they need to learn, grow and thrive. Focused on individuals who have no reliable means for maintaining a healthy diet, Feed More’s Meals on Wheels program helps keep homebound seniors and disabled neighbors independent and in their own homes for as long as possible.
Higher Achievement steps in to give scholars supplemental academic support in communities that lack the resources to start all students on equal footing. By providing high quality afterschool programming, supported by caring staff and mentors, Higher Achievement is closing the opportunity gap during the critical middle school years.
Junior Achievement is dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices. JA’s programs—in the core content areas of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy— allow young people to experience and realize the opportunities and realities of work and life in the 21st century.
The YMCA of Greater Richmond recognizes and celebrates the growing diversity of our community. The YMCA builds character in youth through YMCA core programs, including afterschool and summer programs geared at academic success. In addition to general support, Tredegar employees provide supplies for Bright Beginnings, the YMCA’s program which ensures that children in our community are prepared and confident for the school year by providing them with school supplies.
